Job Description
Cable Technician Job Summary:
SitePro Solutions is seeking experienced Lead Cable Techs for a local structured cabling position. This low voltage, cable installer role is an excellent opportunity to get your foot in the door with a dependable company that specializes in telecommunications and structured cabling!
This position is 100% Travel.
You will:
- Pull and route CAT5 or CAT 6 cable in a data center or new construction commercial environment
- Terminate phone jacks
- Dress and terminate distribution frames (66 or 110 blocks, patch panels)
- Test cable/troubleshoot networking issues
- Install support structures (ladders, racks, j-hooks)
- stall cable support systems in new or existing buildings
Establish cable pathways as prescribed by industry standards
Terminate and test copper voice/data cables - Install termination blocks, patch panels and station hardware
- Install, terminate, test and troubleshoot fiber optic cable
- Collaborate with Manager and Customer in project planning and implementation
- Prepare and maintain daily job journals, field change order forms, material -inventory forms and all required documentation
- Manage location schedules including start time, break time and stop time
- Train and direct Technicians and Technician Helpers
- Cleanup work site each day
- Comply with all safety regulations
What we are looking for:
- A cable technician or cable installer with at least one year of structured cabling experience
- Ownership of basic cabling tools and PPE: punch downs, snips, wire strippers, cordless drill, hard hat, boots, safety glasses, etc.
- Familiarity with BICSI, EIA, TIA or NEC Standards a plus
- Must adhere to OSHA safety standards
- Must be familiar with standard color codes
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- •2+ years experience in the telecommunications industry
- Lead experience
- Experience and knowledge with using Microsoft Office
- Required cable installation certifications
- Knowledge of category rated testers, Cat 3, Cat 5, Cat 5e and Cat 6 cable troubleshooting
- Advanced knowledge of fiber optic cable requirements, fire stopping and grounding
- Ability to read, analyze and decipher scopes of work
- Ability to use basic hand tools, punch down, shears and crimp tools
- Ability to read floor plans
